Authorized Users:
Pursuant to statutory changes to Section 465.189 Florida Statutes, passed during the 2007 legislative session, licensed pharmacists may now administer influenza vaccine to adults. The statute further requires that pharmacists report influenza doses administered to Florida SHOTS. Florida Administrative Code 64B16-26.1031 adopted on March 20, 2008, provides further detail on the law.
Adult Influenza Vaccine Program Requirements:
- Section 465.189, Florida Statutes authorizes pharmacists to administer adult influenza vaccinations to their customers.
- Prior to administering these vaccines, pharmacists must be certified pursuant to a certification program approved by the Florida Department of Health's Board of Pharmacy.
- Certified pharmacies that provide adult influenza vaccinations to their customers are required to enter those shot records in the Florida SHOTS registry.
- Certified pharmacists may participate in the Florida SHOTS data upload program provided a linkage can be developed between the registry and the billing, practice management, or EMR software in which they are recording the shots.
